Story

Inspired by the Irish Legend Grace O’Malley, Pirate Queen is an animated feature film that follows Grace, a feisty heiress desperate for adventure who sets sail on a mission to retrieve the kingdoms stolen treasure only for it to go badly wrong when her best friend is captured by the Pirate King.

Pirate Queen is a Luna Films production.

Who was Grace O'Malley?

Grace O’Malley (a. 1530 - 1603) is one of the most famous pirates of all time. From the age of eleven, she forged a career in seafaring and piracy and was considered a fierce leader at sea and a shrewd politician on land. As Chief of the O'Malley Clan, she successfully defended the independence of her territories at a time when much of Ireland fell under the English rule and is still considered today ‘the pirate queen of Ireland.’ (read more here)

Luna Films is a film and television development company based in Co. Wicklow, home of the Creative Executive and Film producer Sarah-Kate Fenelon, developing fantasy, genre and animated stories.

Sarah-Kate Fenelon

Sarah-Kate Fenelon is a screenwriter and producer from Co. Wicklow who is represented at Casarotto Ramsay & Associates in London. For the last 6 years she has worked as a producer and creative executive for Neil Gaiman at The Blank Corporation where she most recently produced his 6 episode fantasy series GOOD OMENS 2 for Amazon Studios and BBCS. Her screenplays have been featured at International film festivals and labs, including horror feature Cobra Lily which participated in the Stories and Beyond writing lab at the Netherlands FF, as well as being selected for the Galway Film Fleadh pitch competition. The Night Receptionist was selected for the ‘They’re Only Stories’ Podcast funded by the Arts Council Ireland. Most recently her animated feature Pirate Queen, was selected for Stowe Labs 2023 and received a Screen Ireland Fellowship. She is currently producing GOOD OMENS 3 for Amazon Studios.

Shauna Shivers McAtamney

Shauna Shivers McAtamney is a Producer and Script Editor basedin Co. Antrim and is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and theNFTS. She recently worked at Element Pictures and script-edited two seasons of THE DRY and CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS.In 2021 Shauna produced the award-winning short film JUST JOHNNY (Doyen Pictures), which was funded by NI Screen and ArtsCouncil NI. JUST JOHNNY premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh and enjoyed a successful international festival run before being selected for the British Council's FIVE FILMS FOR FREEDOM. Shauna is currently developing her own television and feature film slate and is a BAFTA Connects member.
